We've put together this page to assist you in getting registered, update you on changes to the process this season, and provide answers to the most commonly asked questions, including cost, payment plans, applying for financial aid, schedule and team trips.  Novice rowers practice after school and Varsity rowers practice before school and on Saturday mornings. Our Spring regatta schedule is shaping up. You'll find a draft regatta schedule among the registration materials. 

Returning Novice and Varsity rowers, you'll pay $1,300 if you register by February 5; if registering after that date you will be assessed a late fee of $300.

New Novices, your registration fee is $1,300 through February 25; no late fees for you!  Novice registration extends into the end of February to allow you time to experience the joy of rowing before making a decision to join the team. But if you already are sure that you'd like to join, we encourage you to register sooner; it helps us with planning.

February 5 - Registration deadline for returning Novices and Varsity rowers. Fee for late returning rower registrations after this date = $1,600. (Note: Fees for rowers who are new to SICR this season will remain at $1,300 throughout the registration process.)

February 25 -  Spring Season Registration closes for all rowers.

February 26 - Official start of Spring Season. All registration paperwork for returning rowers must be received by Registrar (5) days prior in order to attend practice.

3/31-4/6 - Spring Break Training trip to Oak Ridge, Tennesse, including regattas with Loyola Academy and OLSM

4/14 - Regatta vs. Evanston Township High School (ETHS) at the Eleanor Boathouse

4/20 - Mitten Series regatta in Milford, MI

4/27 - Grand Rapids Invitational in Grand Rapids, MI

5/11-5/12 - Midwest Scholastic Rowing Championships in Milford, MI

5/18-5/19 - Midwest Junior Rowing Championship in Bethel, OH (qualifying crews only)

5/24-5/25 - SRAA National Championships in Pennsauken, NJ (qualifying crews only)

• $1,300 (after February 5, a late fee of $300 is assessed for returning Novices and Varsity rowers)
• When completing your online registration through SportsEngine, you will have the option to pay in full for the season or make an initial payment plus three equal installments throughout the season. 
• Season fees cover coach salaries, equipment purchases and asset maintenance, liability and property insurance, boathouse rental, equipment storage (trailers, boats, launches, oars, ergs, etc.), regular season regatta fees, team travel, administrative, accounting and audit fees and annual team events.
• Please note, this registration fee does not cover costs associated with the Spring Break Trip to Tennessee.
• Novice uniform shirts are included in the season fees and Novices provide their own black compression shorts.  JV/Varsity team members must purchase a uniform for an additional cost. Students can buy various crew related gear throughout the year at different times.

Crews qualifying for special regattas such as the Head of the Charles or SRAA Nationals will be responsible for their own travel costs and an additional SICR fee of $300 to help cover the cost of registration fees, coaches' travel, team dinners, and uniforms. Rowers may apply for financial aid to help defray these costs.

Welcome Back! Returning rowers who registered in the Fall and Winter must register again for the Spring Season. But, good news! You won't have to submit as many forms. And, better yet, you won't have to mail anything in hard copy. SICR has gone electronic this season. You will need access to a printer and a scanner, or you'll need to learn how to use your phone to create multi-page pdfs.

The financial aid payment process has changed this season. To apply for assistance, submit the request form to the Registrar via email. (It's best to do this as your first step, before entering all of your registration details in SportsEngine.) Within a day or two, the Registrar will notify you if your request is approved, and provide you with a discount code to enter in SportsEngine when processing your payment.

Registering for Saint Ignatius Chicago Rowing (SICR) is a multi-step process:

1. New novice rowers are required to arrange a swimming test, which can be performed at many local or public pools and certified by a lifeguard. (This is for first time rowers only.) Swimmers need to demonstrate the ability to keep themselves afloat in water for 10 minutes, and swim 50 yards unaided.

2. You will register online through a system called SportsEngine.  You will need to create a SportsEngine login and read the initial instructions.

3. If you are applying for financial aid, your first step is to submit the Financial Aid Request Form to the Registrar via email. If approved, you will receive a discount code from the registrar to use in the online payment system. 

4. Next, take a detour to create a US Rowing login. US Rowing sponsors most of our regattas, and your rower must be a member in order to race.  The registration form will guide you to the site and explain the process.  You'll be assigned a National Rowing number, sign an online waiver and pay a modest registration fee.  Make note  of your US Rowing number...when you return to the SICR registration, you will be asked to provide your US Rowing number and the expiration date of the membership and waiver.

5. Return to SportsEngine and answer the registration questions; download some forms; sign the forms and upload them. If you have questions, save your changes, pause the registration and reach out to the registrar (registrar@saintignatiuschicagorowing.org) for answers. SportsEngine will allow you to pick up where you left off when you sign back in.

6. Submit payment via SportsEngine. You can choose to pay in full or installments. You can provide a credit card number or have the payment(s) pulled from your bank account.  SportsEngine does not support the use of Zelle or Venmo.

Keep in mind there  is no "back" button in SportsEngine;  however, you will have the opportunity to edit any information during the "Review" process at the end.

The electronic registration is complete after the initial payment has been submitted.

• Q. Is there a date by which I need to register?
• A. For returning rowers, the registration deadline is February 5; a late fee of $300 will be charged after that date.  Registration for new novices will remain open through the end of February.

• Q. If you are a returning rower, must you complete both the paper and website registration?
• A. Returning rowers do need to register, but you will have fewer forms to complete. Some will need to be uploaded to the registration site.  You will no longer be required to mail in paper forms.

• Q. Can you make payment by check, Zelle or Venmo?
• A. No. All payments will be submitted via SportsEngine, which will pull the payments from your credit card or your bank account.

• Q. Must you resubmit US Rowing info?
• A. Yes, we need confirmation that both the US Rowing Waiver and US Rowing membership are up to date in order to register. The coaches cannot register you to participate in regattas if your membership and waiver form are not current.

• Q. Does the Spring Season registration include the Spring Break Training trip to Oak Ridge, Tennessee?
• A. No, the training trip requires a separate (shorter) registration process that will open February 1.
