Talk with Tim Simon, Head Novice Coach

Novice Coach Tim Simon (former Penn Rower & Team Captain) has a developmental program for all novice rowers, making the sport accessible to all who commit. No previous rowing experience is required.  You can email Coach Tim at timothy.simon@ignatius.org

Rowing at St. Ignatius College Prep is a club sport run by the parents of the athletes, coaches, and volunteers.  This is a no-cut sport, and all interested St. Ignatius students who are willing to make the commitment are welcome to join. If you are new to the sport, you may attend practice for up to a week at the start of the fall or spring season before committing. Students need to register with Saint Ignatius Chicago Rowing (SICR) and  provide proof that they have passed a swim test.  Registration for the Fall Season, Spring Season, Spring Break Trip, Learn-to-Row Summer Camp, or other programs sponsored by Saint Ignatius Chicago Rowing will be posted on this website prior to the start of each season or program. SICR is a self-funded program and there are fees associated with each program.

Any athletes in grades 7-11, regardless of what school they attend, are welcome to attend our summer camp. The Novice and Varsity teams are only open to students from Saint Ignatius College Prep.

There are so many benefits to joining the rowing team. It's a great workout which benefits mental as well as physical health. Most rising freshmen have never rowed before, so the Novices all come in at the same beginner level. Crew is all about teamwork; as a result you are likely to make good friends and learn to work well with others. The benefits of being outdoors and working hard together are significant.  And, it's fun!
